Paul Revere Invoice to the Massachusetts Bay Colony, 1775
Business
About Item:
While Boston was under siege by the British troops during 1775 and into 1776, Paul lived with his family in Watertown, MA. However, he still needed to make money to provide the basic necessities for this family! So, he used his engraving and printing skills to produce currency that Massachusetts used to pay its soldiers to fight in the Revolutionary War. This document shows the front and back of the invoice he sent to the colony to get paid for his services.
Glossary Terms:
- Committee of Safety—the group within the Sons of Liberty in charge of organizing communication and dispersing weapons
- Impressions—the images and text that Revere engraved on copper plate, then printed onto pieces of paper
- NB—“note well” or, pay attention!
